After meeting a delegation of women journalists on the issue of women safety in the city Saturday,Governor K Sankaranarayanan promised them that he would take up the matter with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and the railway minister. Speaking to a group of 15 women journalists,representing print and electronic media,who met him at Raj Bhavan,Sankaranarayanan said the issue of women safety,including enhancement of safety measures in local trains,would be taken up on an immediate basis. We have strong laws to protect the life and liberty of citizens,what we need is effective implementation of the laws, he said. The journalists voiced their concerns over the issue of safety of women in Mumbai against the backdrop of the gangrape of a photojournalist in Mumbai Thursday.
