Woman held for looting drivers

A 40-year-old woman was arrested by the Malad police on Wednesday for allegedly looting drivers of four wheelers on the pretext of taking lift.

A 40-year-old woman was arrested by the Malad police on Wednesday for allegedly looting drivers of four wheelers on the pretext of taking lift. The woman, after getting into the vehicles, used to demand valuables and cash from the driver and threaten to file rape charges against them if they refused.

According to Malad police, the woman,Zeniz John Mathews Rozario,is a resident of Bandra and has more than seven cases registered against her in Goregaon,Khar and Mahim police stations. Police officers investigating the case said that constable P Salvi, who was attached to the Khar police station earlier, was passing by the Malad railway station when he spotted Rozario in the area.

“Since Salvi had arrested Rozario in Khar two years ago for the same offence,he immediately recognised her,” said Avinash Jadhav, senior inspector of Malad police station.

Jadhav said that Rozario was detained by Salvi on suspicion. On questioning,Rozario allegedly confessed to looting a 50-year-old a few days ago at Link Road near the Malwani signal. Jadhav added that Rozario, who is a native of Kolkata, had been staying in Mumbai alone.

“Rozario would ask drivers of four wheelers for a lift and ask them to take the car to a secluded spot. On reaching the spot, she would demand cash and valuables from the driver. She used to threaten them with filing rape charges if they refused,” said Jadhav.
