Industries Minister Uday Samant announced in the Legislative Council on Thursday that the government would release a White Paper on industries on Friday or Monday, highlighting the reasons why four mega industrial projects including Vedanta-Foxconn, Tata Airbus and Bulk Drug Park did not come to Maharashtra and chose other states.
“Several members (of Legislative Council) spoke about the projects that went to Gujarat like Vedanta-Foxconn and Tata Air bus, while speaking on the MAITRI bill. They sought clarification on it. Why Vedanta-Foxconn project went to Gujarat needs to be ascertained and the exact reason for the project going out of the state should be revealed. Therefore, on Friday or on Monday, as we had already announced, we will table the White Paper in the house that will highlight how and why the four projects including Vedanta-Foxconn, Tata Airbus and Bulk Drug Park went out of the state. I am not going into because of whom these projects went out of the state, but it is necessary to understand why it went. It was also important to introspect and ensure that this doesn’t happen again. The government has done that introspection and hence in the past 10 months, the government has successfully attracted investment of 1.18 lakh crore,” Samant said.
Samant had announced in November last year that the Maharashtra government will publish a White Paper on some of the mega projects which went out of the state and if any steps were taken by the previous MVA government to attract those projects to Maharashtra.
Last year, the Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis government had come under sharp attack from the Opposition (Shiv Sena UBT, NCP and Congress) for the alleged exodus of the mega projects Vedanta-Foxconn, Tata-Airbus, Bulk Drug Park and Saffran project which could have created job opportunities for over lakh of people in the state.
The opposition MVA has been alleging that these projects were on the verge of coming to Maharashtra but after the formation of Shinde-led government, they went out of the state and the government failed to retain them in the state.
However, the Eknath Shinde-led government has been claiming that all these projects went out of state due to inaction by the previous Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Industry, Trade and Investment Facilitation Cell (MAITRI) Bill, 2022 to create a single window system for delivery of services related to issuance of permissions, approvals, clearances and no-objection certificates required for establishing and operating industries was tabled and passed in the Legislative Council on Thursday.
