Will restore Rebello park after Bandra fair: civic body in court

Responding to a public interest litigation asking the Bombay High Court to disallow stalls on the Rebello playground for the Bandra fair

Responding to a public interest litigation asking the Bombay High Court to disallow stalls on the Rebello playground for the Bandra fair, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has assured the court that it will restore the playground to its original condition after the eight- day fair ends.

The BMC gave this undertaking before a division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice R S Dalvi. The fair will start from September 11.

The PIL,which has been filed by a citizens’ trust based in Khar, asks whether the BMC “can act as the landlord of open spaces and footpaths…by auctioning the same.” “The municipal corporation ignores the sanitation and health standards of the area during the Bandra fair,” the petition notes. The case has been adjourned till October 28.
