(Image source: Wikipedia)Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Elizabeth Allen said on Tuesday that emphasis has been placed on increasing the number of Indian students coming to the US for education. She also assured that the US is committed to ensuring the safety of Indian students studying in America.
Allen was speaking at a talk titled ‘Leveraging Youth to Strengthen US India Partnership’ organised by the US Consulate in association with the Mumbai University at Fort.
Shubhajit Roy, diplomatic editor of The Indian Express, interacted with Allen on various issues pertaining to India-US relations. Vice-chancellor of Mumbai University Dr Ravindra Kulkarni was also present during the interaction.
Allen said that students from India should take advantage of education opportunities present in the US.
When asked about the recent spate of attacks on Indian students in the US, Allen said they were taking efforts to ensure the safety of all students currently in the country and measures were being taken to ensure students’ safety.
Talking about the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict, Allen said that precautions were being taken to prevent this conflict from spreading to the Middle East. She also said that it was the US government’s stated stand that while Israel had the right to defend itself, the lives of innocent Palestinian civilians needed to be saved.
