Unattended car triggers bomb scare at airport

An unattended car parked outside Terminal 1 A of the domestic airport in Mumbai caused a bomb scare on Thursday. Security agencies at the airport got suspicious after they noticed a Ford car,which was parked outside the departure terminal,lying unattended for over an hour.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to check if the car was laden with explosives,but did not find anything. “Our officers rushed to the spot to check the car thoroughly,but did not find anything suspicious. The airport police also arrived later,” said a senior CISF officer. The car,which belongs to Thane-resident Kevin Couto,was towed away by the police. “We found Couto’s insurance papers inside the car from which we got his address and contact number,” said an officer from the airport police station.

During investigations,it was learnt that Couto was running late for his flight to Delhi and left his car unattended outside the aiport.

“Couto was scheduled to travel to Delhi. Since he was running late for his flight,he left the car parked outside the terminal. It was a very foolish thing to do,” the police officer said.
