Uddhav Thackeray orchestrates Shiv Sena’s remarkable revival in Lok Sabha polls
Though falling short of the 18 seats won in the 2019 LS polls in alliance with the BJP, this victory carries significance due to the shifting political landscape in the state.

A schism within the Shiv Sena, a party his father had nurtured since its inception, left Uddhav Thackeray wavering as the bulk of his MLAs deserted him to align with Eknath Shinde. Nearly two years later, stripped of his party’s iconic “bow and arrow” symbol, Uddhav Thackeray has orchestrated a remarkable revival for his party, clinching 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state and decisively outperforming the Eknath Shinde-led faction, which secured only six seats.
Though falling short of the 18 seats won in the 2019 LS polls in alliance with the BJP, this victory carries significance due to the shifting political landscape in the state. Uddhav, long criticised for insularity, confronted the challenge posed by the split head-on, stepping out of his comfort zone to campaign extensively across Maharashtra.
In the direct showdown between the two factions of the Shiv Sena across 13 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, Sena UBT secured victory on eight seats, dealing a blow to Shinde camp.
While interpreted as a retaliation by Uddhav against Shinde, these results underscore that Uddhav’s faction of the Sena resonates more with voters, who remain loyal to him and the Sainiks. It also demonstrates the potential for vote transfer within the MVA, a positive indicator for the opposition ahead of future elections.
Despite formidable challenges, Uddhav has emerged victorious, solidifying his image as a spirited and charismatic leader, who can rally crowds effectively. He has ascended as a prominent figure within the MVA.
“Uddhav embarked on an extensive campaign trail, emerging as a key speaker and drawing massive crowds at MVA and INDIA bloc rallies,” remarked a leader from Shiv Sena UBT.
