The truckers strike in the state since Saturday has not affected prices, with enough stocks and no disruption in locally supplied commodities, but consumers are likely to feel the pinch if it goes on for another couple of days. Truck owners in Karnataka,Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are also on strike and markets in Maharashtra get vegetables and grain supply from these states. Prices of vegetables and fruits have gone up marginally even in wholesale markets but there is no stock shortfall as of now. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Anil Deshmukh said that no effect of the strike had been felt in markets and there were no complaints registered due to the strike. The government is keeping a close tab on the strike and is hoping for a resolution in the meeting called at the Central government level on Monday. Mumbai Agriculture Produce Market president Mohan Givani said local trucks are still supplying produce and there had been not much effect on availability at the moment. He said that prices of vegetables had gone up marginally but the effects of the strike could be more visible if it continues for another two-three days. Prices of sugar has also gone up but Givani sais it was not related to the strike. No trucks from outside the state are coming in but local supply is on as usual. There hasnt been any dramatic effect as of now, said Givani.
