SIT led by ADGP to probe group’s attempt to forcibly enter Nashik’s Trimbakeshwar temple

A group of people belonging to a minority community allegedly attempted to enter Trimbakeshwar temple on Saturday but their bid was foiled by security personnel. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced an SIT probe.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced that a special investigation team (SIT) will probe the alleged incident at Trimbakeshwar temple in Nashik where a group of people purportedly belonging to a minority community forcibly tried to enter the Shiva temple through the main entrance on Saturday and tried to offer a chadar.

“An FIR has been filed. An SIT under the additional director general of police will investigate the matter,” Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, said. Those responsible will be dealt with firmly, he added.

The SIT will also investigate past instances when similar attempts were allegedly made to break into the temple.

The Trimbakeshwar temple, where the Jyotirlinga is worshipped, is an important pilgrimage centre for Hindus.

According to reports, a group of people attempted to barge inside the temple but their bid was foiled by security personnel. The incident has sparked tension in the area and the Brahman Mahasabha has demanded a thorough probe into the matter.
