A 17-year-old boy was detained for allegedly sexually assaulting an eleven-year-old girl in south Mumbai, police said Saturday.
The juvenile accused, who was detained last week, has been lodged in the Dongri Children’s Home.
According to police, the incident took place on May 23, when the girl was going to a shop after playing at a friend’s place.
An officer said, “The accused is an elder brother of the girl’s friend. On May 23, at around 3.30pm, the juvenile was standing near his house when he saw the 11-year-old girl was heading out. When she told him that she was going to a shop, the juvenile gave her a Rs 20 note and asked her to get a cigarette for him.” When the girl refused to get him a cigarette and handed him the money back, the accused grabbed her hand and pulled her inside his house, police said adding that he allegedly sexually assaulted the girl.
The girl, who was traumatized by the incident, initially went to her sister and informed her about it.
An officer said, “Instead of going home, the two sisters then went to their eldest sister’s home. The girl then revealed the ordeal to her eldest sister,” an investigator said.
The police said that the 24-year-old woman then brought her eleven-year-old sister to the police station and lodged a complaint.
The minor was initially sent for medical examination after which a case of rape under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 was registered.
The primary medical reports confirmed that she was sexually assaulted.
The juvenile, who had escaped after the incident, was located near his house later following which a police team detained him.
“The juvenile has been lodged in the Dongri Children’s Home,” said an officer adding, “The victim is currently not in Mumbai and as soon as she comes we will record her statement in front of the magistrate.”
