Swimmer drowns,another rescued

An outing at Aksa Beach turned into a tragedy for six friends on Wednesday afternoon after one of them drowned while swimming.

An outing at Aksa Beach turned into a tragedy for six friends on Wednesday afternoon after one of them drowned while swimming. The lifeguards at the beach,however,saved another man who had jumped into the sea to save his friend.

The victim has been identified as Satish Prakash Servade (21) and the survivor is one Vikas Telang (18),student of Ambedkar College in Wadala. According to the Senior Police Inspector Jaywant Hargude of Malwani police station,the group of six men from Chembur had ventured into the sea for swimming at 1.30pm.

“While Vikas and the others were swimming near the shore,Satish ventured deep and a high tide swept him away. Seeing him drowning,Vikas jumped into the sea but could not manage to save him.”

“While we were doing our regular patrolling rounds,we heard screams from the sea and saw two men drowning. A team of three lifeguards jumped into the sea but could save only one,” said life guard Rajnikant Masgaonkar in his statement to the police. Telang was rushed to the Bhagwati Hospital and was discharged after treatment.
