“There is another spell of rain expected in the next three to four days with low pressure formation over the Telengana region. This is definitely going to bring in more rain in the state in the coming week,” said IMD officials.
While withdrawal of monsoon should take place this month, it looks unlikely that it would happen before the second week of October in the state. With further withdrawal taking place from the northern regions, the official said that with another bout of rain, this will delay the withdrawal in the state.
For withdrawal of monsoon, the conditions required is that there should be no rains for five days continously and there significant decrease in humidity levels in the city. Normally, September 1 is the time when the monsoon starts withdrawing from west Rajasthan and normally for the city it is mid-September.
For the country, with a slight deficiency registered, the met officials, who had earlier forecast an “above normal” rainfall, have settled for a “normal rainfall” for the season. Of the 36 divisions in the country, 4 divisions have registered excess rainfall, 24 divisions have registered normal rainfall while 8 have registered a deficient rainfall.
While for the state there is excess rainfall registered for all divisions with Madhya Maharashtra registering surplus of 14 per cent, Konkan and Goa being 20 per cent, Marathwada being 14 per cent and Vidarbha being 4 per cent for the season for rainfall recorded from June to September. The country has registered 820.5 mm as against the normal rainfall mean of 853.9 mm rainfall with a departure of -4 per cent.
