(Express Photo) A special court on Saturday rejected the bail application of bookie Anil Jaisinghani, arrested in connection with the alleged blackmail and extortion bid on Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The court allowed the bail application of his cousin, Nirmal Jaisinghani, who was also arrested along with him last month. The court had on Monday granted bail to Jaisinghani’s daughter, 25-year-old Aniksha. The detailed order on rejection of his bail plea is yet to be made available.
The Madhya Pradesh Police, meanwhile, on Saturday took Anil’s custody from Taloja Central Jail, where he was lodged. The court had allowed the MP Police his transit remand on Friday, to take him to the state in connection with a pending case under Excise Act.
On Saturday, the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) zonal office in Ahmedabad also approached the court seeking Anil’s custody in connection with a money laundering case. The ED is likely to arrest Anil after the MP Police completes his custodial probe. The Goa Police, too, has approached the court stating that it wants Anil’s custody in connection with a pending case.
Anil Jaisinghani, who was on the run for over eight years, has been named in 17 cases, the prosecution has told the court.
The police have alleged that Aniksha, posing as a designer, had established proximity with Amruta and later offered her a bribe of Rs 1 crore seeking her intervention to clear the cases against Anil. After Amruta blocked her, Aniksha allegedly blackmailed her and demanded Rs 10 crore.
