The police have initiated investigations into the murder of a builder who was allegedly killed by unidentified assailants near his Diva residence on Monday morning. Prima facie, the murder is believed to have occured over a property dispute between the victim and two of the accused.

According to the Mumbra police, the assailants attacked builder and shakha pramukh of Shiv Sena in Diva, Sandip Vaman Patil (35) in the Sabegaon vilage in Diva. Sandip was on his way to a nearby temple when about 10 to 15 men attacked him with choppers and swords and also shot him.

“The incident took place near Patil’s house on Monday morning. The family of the victim has said that it was his daily routine to visit the temple with his collegaues and friends before starting for work. He was only a short distance away from the house when the assailants attacked on him with swords and chopper, and then shot him in the head and chest, inflicting serious injuries. Patil died on the spot,” said an officer with the Mumbra Police station.

Further inquiries led to the identification of two of the assailants, who had allegedly been threatening the victim for some time now. The police said that the accused and Patil were related to each other, and had been embroiled in a dispute over a piece of ancestral property, which Patil was trying to develop.

“We have registered the case of murder against the two accused, identified as Nagraj Vishnu Patil and Kedar Vishnu Patil. The other ten accused persons are still unidentified. We are currently recording statements from eye witnesses and the family of the victim. The family has told us that Nagraj and Kedar had been threatening Patil,” the officer said.
