Shinde government to give Rs 10 lakh aid to every madrasa in state
The GR stated funds will be provided under the Zakir Hussain Madrasa Modernization Scheme, to those madarsas that introduce science and math as mandatory subjects in the curriculum.

In a bid to modernise madrasas, the state government led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has decided to provide Rs 10 lakh financial aid to each madrasa across the state to modernise them.
The government resolution (GR) issued by the state government’s minority department stated the funding will be given to the Madrasas in the state as a part of an initiative mooted as part of the Prime Minister’s 15-point programme.
The GR stated funds will be provided under the Zakir Hussain Madrasa Modernization Scheme, to those madarsas that introduce science and math as mandatory subjects in the curriculum.
The GR stated that to avail the grant, each madrasa will have to meet certain basic conditions.
Even as the opposition welcomed the move stating it will modernise madarsas and bring the minority community students into the mainstream education system, opposition MLAs, including Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh who welcomed the move, said that the stringent norms and implementation by a high-level committee headed by district collectors have made it difficult to avail the scheme’s benefits.
“Not using the scheme has been a significant issue in its implementation. At the same time, the government should not interfere in any way with its functioning under the garb of moderninsing madrasas. Any such attempt will be met with strong opposition from the community. The government should make efforts to build trust with the community and create awareness about the scheme within the community for it to be better utilised and achieve the intended results,” Shaikh said.
In 2013, the state government had allocated Rs 2 lakh for madrasas which has now been increased to Rs 10 lakh.
