The sources claimed that Indrani and Peter had met through Padamsee, while Buddha had employed co-accused Shyam Rai after the latter lost his job as Indrani’s driver in July 2012.
A Special Court is slated to pass orders Tuesday on a request by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to interrogate Indrani Mukerjea, Sanjeev Khanna and Shyamwar Rai. The CBI wants to interrogate the trio, arrested for the murder of Mukerjea’s daughter Sheena Bora, over a series of video conversations prior to the crime.
Special CBI court judge H S Mahajan heard arguments Monday during which lawyers for Mukerjea and Khanna said that they had no objections to their clients being interrogated by the CBI. The CBI had earlier told the court that it had received a forensic report about the alleged video conversations between the three accused that had brought new facts to light.
The accused also petitioned to the court to be given access to statements of certain witnesses recorded before a magistrate, arguing that they had been denied access to those though the media had published the same. These statements form part of the chargesheet filed by the CBI last month.
CBI special public prosecutor Kavita Patil said the applications of the accused should be rejected as it would be harmful to provide witness statements to the accused because “investigations are at a crucial stage”.
The court will also decide Tuesday if the accused should be provided the statements. The three accused will remain in judicial custody till December 17.
Sheena Bora, 24, was allegedly kidnapped by the accused in Bandra in April 2012 and strangled to death in a car. According to the CBI’s chargesheet, the accused then drove her body to a forested area in Raigad district where they buried it. While the accused were arrested by the Khar police station in August, Indrani Mukjerjea’s husband, Peter Mukerjea, was arrested last month after the CBI took over the probe. Last week, Peter too was remanded in judicial custody by a magistrate court.
