The oppositition Maha Vikas Aghadi on Friday slammed the Mahayuti after jailed BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad was allowed to cast his vote in the biennial council election held on Friday for the 11 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
The Congress had written to the state chief electoral officer apppointed for the biennial council election asking not to allow Gaikwad to vote in the MLC election as it will violate The Representation of People’s Act. The Congress had said in case his vote is allowed, the party will take a legal route to oppose it.
Commenting on the permission granted to Gaikwad to cast his vote, Shiv Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut slammed the BJP, accusing the party of misuing power. “BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad is allowed to come out of the jail and vote. But when NCP MLAs Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh were in jail, they were not allowed to vote (for MLC polls in 2022). This is what we call misuse of power,” said Raut.
