After MNS launched an agitation against errant auto drivers, rival party Shiv Sena also joined the protest, promising it will not let commuters be inconvenienced.

Shiv Sena woke up to the plight of Mumbai residents after MNS workers launched an assault and issued a warning to auto union leaders over holding the city to ransom. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said auto drivers will not be permitted to hold the city to ransom and launch an indefinite strike on November 9.

Auto union leaders, however, stuck to their strike call and said they will take out a morcha towards Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s residence Matoshree in Bandra.

Taking responsibility for attacks on autos in Bandra and Vile Parle,Raut said party workers will be on the streets to ensure auto drivers don’t refuse rides. “Some people feel they have become strike emperors, but they are under a false impression. We will not let them strike on November 9. They cannot harass people and hold the city to ransom,” Raut said at a press conference.

Home Minister R R Patil said the police had been instructed to take action against anyone who takes law in their hand. “The police will take necessary action as per the cases,” said Patil.

“People use autorickshaws to go to work, school and colleges. These people are being troubled and we will not let this happen. The Shiv Sena Auto Union will not join any strike or protest,” added Raut.
