Screengrab of the video which captured the retaining wall collapse. A retaining wall on the service road towards Mumbai-Goa National Highway (NH-66) collapsed Thursday morning at Visawa Hotel near Mahad City.
According to a Public Works Department (PWD) official, the portion of the wall collapsed following the turbulent flow of a river. However, traffic remained unaffected.
A video of the wall collapse which occurred at 8 am was captured by a passerby.
Mumbai and Madhya Maharashtra, including Raigad district, recorded heavy rainfall Thursday for the second consecutive day.
As a safety measure, the state government has urged citizens not to venture out without need. Schools and colleges have also declared holidays.
