A few weeks after Malegaon additional district collector Yeshwant Sonawane was set ablaze allegedly by members of the oil mafia,a rationing officer from Kandivali was assaulted with an iron rod while conducting a raid on a shop suspected to be adulterating kerosene. The victim,Sanjay Sawdekar,has been admitted to the Bhagwati Hospital. A police official from the Samta Nagar police station said,The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Mahavir Paints located at Akurli Road in Kandivali. Sawdekar,who works as a rationing inspector,and his team got a tip-off that the people in the shop were adulterating blue kerosene obtained from rationing shops by diluting it with a solvent for the purpose of selling it in the market. However,when Sawdekar and his associates raided the shop and tried to intervene,Kisanlal Jain,who was allegedly involved in the process,got into a scuffle with Sawdekar and struck him with an iron rod,injuring him severely. Sawdekars associates were also beaten up by Jain and his accomplices. Sawdekar approached the Samta Nagar police station. After registering a complaint of assaulting public servant and interfering with his duties,we sent a team and arrested Jain. We are conducting further inquiries to arrest his accomplices who were involved in the adulteration and for assaulting Sawdekar and his officials, said the official.
