Raosaheb Danve may be next state BJP president

Danve, who holds the portfolio food and civil supplies, has given his consent for the party post.

The BJP is likely to appoint Union Minister of State Raosaheb Danve as the next president of its Maharashtra unit.

Currently, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis continues to hold the charge of the state BJP president.

Danve, who holds the portfolio food and civil supplies, has reportedly given his consent for the party post and would relinquish the ministerial charge in Narendra Modi government.

Both BJP president Amit Shah and Fadnavis held a meeting with Danve on Friday morning.

Top BJP sources told The Indian Express, “Raosaheb Danve’s name as state president would be formally announced in a few days.”

Although there were several contenders for the post, Danve’s has been preferred for his understanding and base in rural Maharashtra, besides experience. Danve, a Maratha, hails from backward region of Marathwada. The four-term MP represents Jalna Lok Sabha constituency.

A senior general secretary in BJP said, “Danve is a senior leader and non-controversial leader. He does not represent any camp within the party. He has always been hard-working and a low-profile leader.”
