Ragpicker found dead in Ghatkopar,cops suspect murder

Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to look for leads into the case.

Police have initiated investigation into the suspected murder of a 55-year-old woman from Ghatkopar,whose dead body was found near her residence Wednesday morning. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to look for leads into the case. There were injury marks on the woman’s body,they added.

According to the Pant Nagar police,Lalita Rao,a ragpicker,stayed on a pavement on the Ghatkopar Andheri link road. On Wednesday morning,some pavement dwellers saw her lying dead and called the police control room.

The information was relayed to the Pant Nagar police and a team was sent to the spot to conduct inquiries. The body was taken to the Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar for post mortem examination.

“There are visible head injuries which we suspect to be the cause of death. Post mortem reports are expected shortly,after which we will take a call on whether to register a complaint of murder,” said senior police inspector Suresh Nirmal,Pant Nagar police station.

“So far,the other pavement dwellers have not named anyone as a suspect and there are no eyewitnesses to Rao’s death. Her son works and stays in Mumbra and we will take his statement soon,” Nirmal said.
