To mark the opening of his new gallery in Dubai called Sovereign FZE Dadiba Pundole has planned an exhibition that will bring the story of the Pundole familys connection with art to a full circle. Half a century ago,Dadibas father Kali Pundole started the Pundole Art Gallery in what was then,Bombay. Some of the artists who regularly exhibited their works at his gallery included members of the Progressive Art group such as FN Souza,SH Raza,KH Ara and MF Husain. Although of similar roots and ideology,these artists,who are now considered masters of Indian contemporary art,went on to develop their independent styles. Dadiba,through the early works of these artists,is presenting an exhibition in Dubai that revolves around the movement and traces that thread of commonality. The list of artists whose works will be on display at Sovereign FZE,starting May 18,includes Akbar Padamsee,Husain,Raza,Tyeb Mehta,VS Gaitonde and Ravi Kumar.
