Crime branch busts prostitution racket operating from Mumbai hotel, rescues minor
Based on a tip-off that a prostitution racket was operating in a Mumbai-based hotel, the police sent a cop posing as a customer.

The Mumbai police crime branch recently busted an alleged prostitution racket that operated via an online platform. The police rescued two people including a minor and arrested three alleged pimps. One of the three arrested persons is a 64-year-old woman, an officer said.
The officer said that based on a tip-off that a prostitution racket was operating in a Mumbai-based hotel, the police sent a cop posing as a customer. The undercover cop was sent photographs of girls and asked to select one of them.
After the deal was struck, the person went to the hotel room and the rest of the staff followed suit. They rescued two girls and arrested three alleged pimps identified as Aruna Singh, 64, Reshma Shaikh, 34, and Rizwan Sayyad, 30.
Apart from sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, the police have also slapped sections of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act since one of those rescued is a minor.
Another officer said the minor girl had been sent to a rehabilitation centre. He added that prima facie it appears that the girl had been ‘sold’ to the pimps by her parents.
“We are on the lookout for her parents. We will question them and if we find evidence, they too may be placed under arrest,” the crime branch officer added.
The arrested accused were produced before a special POCSO court that remanded the accused in police custody. The officer said they are trying to find out if other accused are involved in the case as well.
