Pregnant ‘Bangladeshi’ woman held after she escapes custody from hospital: Mumbai Police
The woman, Rubina Shaikh, who is five months pregnant, had fled the JJ hospital where she was taken for treatment on August 14. She was nabbed from Navi Mumbai and placed under arrest on Monday.
The officer said that they laid a trap at Navghar Ali Road in Ghansoli where she was expected at her friend’s residence.The Mumbai Police Monday arrested a 20-year-old woman who was nabbed during a crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and later had fled a hospital.
The woman, Rubina Shaikh, who is five months pregnant, had fled the JJ hospital where she was taken for treatment on August 14. She was nabbed from Navi Mumbai and placed under arrest on Monday.
Rais Shaikh, senior inspector of JJ Marg police station ,where an FIR was registered for fleeing police custody, said that the team got details of where the woman resided and places where she went to work.
“For three days the team disguised themselves at these places and got information about her. Eventually with technical intelligence we had information that she was to come to place in Ghansoli,” the officer said.
The officer said that they laid a trap at Navghar Ali Road in Ghansoli where she was expected at her friend’s residence. Accordingly, on Monday as the woman reached the spot, they detained her and placed her under arrest. She was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.
The woman had earlier been arrested by the Vashi police station while conducting a drive against illegal Bangladeshi nationals. Since there is only one prison for women in Byculla, the woman was sent there till the time procedures were underway to deport her.
She was brought to JJ Hospital for treatment on August 14 for treatment. Around 11 am, she had escaped from the legal custody of JJ Hospital.
