Miffed with Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP, Prakash Ambedkar promises ‘full support’ to Congress in 7 Lok Sabha seats

Despite several rounds of talks between the Maha Vikas Aghadi and Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, they have failed to arrive at a consensus on seat-sharing for the Lok Sabha elections.

Expressing distrust over the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) from the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) has sought the names of seven constituencies to be contested by the Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, saying it will extend full support to the party in those seats.

“The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) have refused to listen to VBA’s representatives in the numerous MVA meetings and we have lost faith in both of these parties due to their unequal attitude towards VBA in the MVA,” Ambedkar said in his letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Claiming that its prime agenda remains to unseat the “fascist, divisive, undemocratic BJP-RSS government”, Ambedkar said, “With this thought, I have decided to lend VBA’s full support to the Indian National Congress on 7 seats in Maharashtra. I request you to enlist me the names of 7 constituencies from the quota allotted to the Indian National Congress in the MVA. Our party will lend its complete ground and strategic support to the candidates of your party on these 7 seats of your choice.”

He wrote that the proposal is not only in goodwill but also “an extension of a friendly hand for a possible alliance in the future”.

Despite several rounds of talks between the tripartite MVA and the VBA, the parties have not reached a consensus and the VBA is reportedly unhappy with the proposal to give it four seats. Ambedkar’s disagreement with Thackeray comes months after both parties announced an alliance in Maharashtra.
