The Mumbai Police Control Room received an alleged hoax phone call from a man in Pune who claimed that three terrorists from Dubai, with Pakistani connections, have arrived in Mumbai early Friday.

An FIR was registered by the Azad Maidan police station later in the day.

The caller, who identified himself as Raja Thonge, named one of the terrorists as Mujeeb Mustafa Syed and also shared his car number.

When the police tried to call the numbe later, it was found unavailable.

The police said the SIM card used for making the call was traced to a person at Ashta taluka in Beed district. “The person said he did not buy a SIM card for the said number,” said an officer.

“The three suspects mentioned by the caller were also traced and questioned. But nothing suspicious was found. They said they did not know the caller, Raja Thonge,” the officer added.

The police said they suspect that it was a hoax call and have informed all concerned police units, including their counterpart in Pune.
