Traffic restrictions: The Mumbai Traffic Police has advised Mumbaikars to follow temporary traffic restrictions on the Western Express Highway, to “ensure smooth vehicular movement and security of VVIP convoys, as well as to avoid traffic congestion,” as per a release. The movement of ‘Heavy Motor Vehicles’ (HMVs) is completely prohibited on both South and North bound carriageways of the WEH, from Vakola Flyover to Dahisar Toll Naka, between 2 pm and 9 pm today.
Mumbai Weather Today: Mumbai is unlikely to get respite from unseasonal rains soon, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has extended the yellow alert for Mumbai till 8:30 am on October 30 (Thursday). According to the weather agency, the city is likely to experience thunderstorms coupled with lightning and moderate rain until Thursday morning, following which, the intensity of showers is likely to recede. A yellow alert has been issued for Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Meanwhile, for the Palghar district, a yellow alert has been kept in place till the morning of October 31 (Friday).

Yes Bank suffered a loss of over Rs 2,700 crore due to the "unilateral decision" of its co-founder Rana Kapoor to invest in the Anil Ambani-led financial companies, said the CBI's charge sheet in a case pertaining to alleged fraudulent transactions between the bank and the industrialist's group entities.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last month filed a charge sheet against 13 people and entities, including Anil Ambani, Rana Kapoor and his family members, alleging criminal conspiracy, cheating and corruption related to loans and investments. — PTI
“The year 2025 has been a landmark year for the country's maritime sector, marked by several significant achievements. India's first deep-water international transshipment hub, Vizhinjam Port, became operational this year.
“Adding to the nation's pride, the world's largest container vessel recently docked at the port, showcasing its global capability,” Modi said.
During the fiscal year 2024–2025, India's major ports achieved a record-breaking cargo throughput, setting new benchmarks in efficiency, he said.
Kandla Port made history by launching the nation's first megawatt-scale indigenous green hydrogen facility, Modi said.
“A quarter of the 21st century has passed. The next 25 years of this century are even more crucial, so our focus is on Blue Economy and Sustainable Coastal Development,” Modi said.
“We are placing great emphasis on green logistics, port connectivity and coastal industrial clusters,” he said, adding that significant strides have been made to drive next-generation reforms in the maritime sector.
The number of operational waterways has expanded from just three to an impressive 32, he said. “Furthermore, the net annual surplus of our ports has seen a nine-fold increase over the past decade,” Modi said.
“When the global seas are rough, the world looks for a steady lighthouse. India can play the role of such a lighthouse with a lot of strength,” said PM Modi while addressing the Maritime Leaders Conclave at the India Maritime Week 2025.
“Amid global tensions, trade disruptions and shifting supply chains, India is symbol of strategic autonomy, peace and inclusive growth,” Modi said.

The maritime sector is driving India's growth, the PM said. Over the last decade, it has transformed significantly, boosting trade and port infrastructure, he added.
Under the Maritime India Vision, over 150 initiatives have been launched, resulting in significant improvements across the maritime sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
The capacity of India's major ports has doubled, and turnaround times have been significantly reduced, Modi said.
Cruise tourism has gained substantial momentum and inland waterways have experienced remarkable growth, with cargo movement increasing by more than 700 per cent, he added.
Speaking at the Maritime Leaders Conclave at the India Maritime Week 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “We have replaced over a century-old colonial shipping laws with modern and futuristic laws suited for the 21st century.”
“Today, India's ports are counted among the most efficient in the developing world. In many aspects, they are performing even better than those in the developed world,” Modi said.

Two persons were injured when a three-storey building collapsed during demolition in Mumbai's Mahim area on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The incident was reported at 1.48 pm in Unnati Society on Senapati Bapat Marg near Mahim Railway Station, a civic official said.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested Danish Chikna, a close aide of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and "kingpin" of a drug syndicate, from Goa, officials said on Wednesday.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi Wednesday spoke to the family members of deceased Dr Sampada Munde over phone, assuring that the party will ensure justice to her.
Maharashtra Congress chief Harshavardhan Sapkal personally met the family members in their home town in Beed district.
The doctor was found dead last week in Phaltan town of Satara district where she was working. She has accused several police officials of harassment and physical abuse.

The Global Maritime CEO Forum, the flagship event of India Maritime Week 2025, will bring together CEOs of global maritime companies, major investors, policy-makers, innovators, and international partners to deliberate on the future of the global maritime ecosystem, according to a report in The Indian Express.

IMW 2025, which commenced on October 27 and will continue till October 31, under the theme ‘Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision’, showcases India’s strategic roadmap to emerge as a global maritime hub and a leader in the Blue Economy. IMW 2025 has participants from over 85 countries, featuring more than 1,00,000 delegates, over 500 exhibitors and 350 international speakers.
