The Justice (retired) Sandeep Shinde committee, formed to finalise guidelines to give the Maratha community Kunbi (OBC) certificate, submitted its second report to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday.

The first report was submitted in October and was accepted by the state cabinet on October 3E1. Only three copies of the report were submitted to the government, with the Chief Minister getting one and the two deputy Chief Ministers getting one each. The report comes a week before the deadline given by activist Manoj Jarange-Patil to the state government for Kunbi certificate to Marathas.

“The committee has completed the work as desired by the state government to ensure Kunbi-Maratha and certificates are given by following due process. The state government will implement the recommendations given by the committee,” he said.

Following his second fast unto death, Jarange-Patil had given the Maharashtra government a deadline of December 24. After the first report was submitted from the Shinde committee, the state government had issued guidelines to give Kunbi certificate to Marathas. The state backward class commission was also asked to collect empirical data to prove social and educational backwardness of Marathas.

On Monday evening, the cabinet sub-committee on Maratha reservation met to discuss the issue where details of the report were shared.

The Chief Minister is likely to give a reply on a discussion on Maratha reservation in the legislative assembly on Tuesday, in which over 150 MLAs have participated.
