Three men were arrested within hours of robbing a jewellery unit in Bhuleshwar of raw gold worth Rs 3 lakh on Monday night. Two of the accusedMunna Adhikari and Saddam Shaukat Aliwere discussing about the theft sitting in a bar when an employee of another gold jewellery unit overheard them and informed police.
Acting on a tip-off,police arrested the duo from the bar while the third accomplice Bappa Kharat was nabbed by the employees while he was trying to flee after the robbery. The LT Marg police are on the lookout for three other accomplices who managed to escape.
A police officer from the LT Marg police station said,The theft occurred on Monday night around 10 pm at a gold jewellery manufacturing unit in Panchayat wadi in Bhuleshwar. The employees were busy with their work when the six men barged in with pistols,knives and choppers. They assaulted five employees and made away with 190 gram of raw gold worth Rs 3 lakh. However,Kharat,one of the robbers was apprehended by the employees and passers by while others fled.
Of the five robbers who escaped,Adhikari and Ali went to a bar in Gamdevi to celebrate and started dicussing the details of the theft under the influence of alcohol. An employee of another gold jewellery unit located in the same area overheared them and informed the police. We immediately despatched a team and arrested the duo, said senior police inspector A Borude from the LT Marg police station. The police also seized a toy pistol and some knives and choppers from the three robbers and recovered 40 gram of raw gold from them.
According to the police,the robbery was planned by Munna while serving in prison for a similar robbery that he had committed in 2008.
