One dead as tempo driver ‘loses control’, runs over 6 people in Ghatkopar

A woman died Friday after a tempo hit six people in Ghatkopar West. The four injured (three women and one man) have been admitted to the Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar for treatment.

An officer said that the incident took place around 6.30 pm in the fish market on Chirag Nagar area when the tempo driver lost control of the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Uttam Kharat (25), was taken into custody. The police are checking if he was under the influence of alcohol.

The deceased woman was identified as Preety Patel (35), a resident of Parsiwadi in Ghatkopar. The five injured are Reshma Shaikh (23), Mahrufa Shaikh (27), Taufa Shaikh (38), Arbaz Shaikh (23) and Mehram Shaikh (28).
