Pramila Khubchandani, a 44-year-old yoga instructor known for tutoring Bollywood celebrities, was apprehended by Khar police after her car collided with a two-wheeler, resulting in the rider’s death in Khar on Sunday afternoon. Khubchandani, who transported the injured individual to the hospital, was subsequently granted bail.
As per police reports, Khubchandani, a resident of Nargis Dutt Road, Khar, was driving her Honda Jazz to pick up her children from tuition. Around 12:30 pm, while passing Neelam Foodland on 17th road junction in Khar (West), a speeding two-wheeler crashed into the right side of her car. The impact caused the rider, Virendra Singh, 27, to fall and sustain severe injuries.
“He was rushed to the hospital by Khubchandani in her vehicle, where doctors declared him dead,” said a police officer. Singh’s substandard helmet failed to prevent grievous injuries, the officer noted.
Based on a complaint filed by Singh’s cousin, Satendra Surendra Singh, Khubchandani was arrested under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
Subsequently, she was released on bail, given the nature of the charges against her. “From the CCTV footage of the incident, it appears there was no negligence on the part of the car driver, and the biker collided with her car at high speed,” another officer stated.
The deceased Singh, an idli batter vendor, was en route to deliver idli batter to a customer at the time of the accident. He was the primary breadwinner for his family which lives in Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh, where his elderly parents and siblings live. “His family is shocked and deeply disturbed by this tragic incident. We are arranging to send his body to his family in UP for his last rites,” Singh said.
