New AC bus routes planned for BKC

Officegoers at the alternative business district of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) may get some relief from their connectivity woes.

Officegoers at the alternative business district of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) may get some relief from their connectivity woes.

Following a meeting with the BKC association on Thursday, the Mumbai Transformation Support Unit (MTSU) has decided look into introduction of new AC bus routes between south Mumbai area and BKC and also carry out extensive surveys to find further solutions to travel issues. The meeting was attended by members from offices such as ICICI,Wokhardt towers and the Bharat Diamond Bourse.

The state government advisory body will,in the next few days survey 30 single-occupancy towers at the business hub to get feedback from car users as well as others on ways to improve public transportation in the area. BKC,for all its infrastructure development and glitzy glass and steel highrises, lacks enough modes of transport.

Several banks and financial institutions have their offices in BKC including IDBI,SBI,Oriental Bank of Commerce,SEBI,Dena Bank,PNB,ING,NSE,NABARD,UTI,Canara Bank and Bank of Baroda in addition to several consulate offices.

“We have realised that in our surveys so far,the human resources personnel were filling up questionnaires. Along with our consultants EMBARQ India Advises, the MTSU will be targeting 30 single-occupancy towers. We will rope in some students to get detailed feedback from employees there,” said Prachi Merchant,a consultant with MTSU. She added that office-goers can also fill up the questionnaire on bestcommute.org.

Following the meeting, diamond merchants from the Bharat Diamond Bourse have suggested that the BEST could start regular half-hourly services from Opera House to the bourse complex in BKC to ferry the thousands of traders, brokers and workers to and fro South Mumbai.

“The suggestion works perfectly for BEST as the loss made in its AC bus services during non-peak hours can be covered,” said a merchant adding another potential AC route that the agency is planning is from Charkop to BKC.
