The Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will not attend the inauguration of the new Parliament building scheduled on May 28 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This comes after the Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), CPI(M), and CPI had said on Tuesday, they will skip the inauguration of the new Parliament building by PM Modi. They have alleged a breach of constitutional propriety and argued that as the head of Parliament, President Droupadi Murmu should have been invited to dedicate the building to the nation instead of PM Modi. An NCP leader said the decision has been taken in sync with other like-minded Opposition parties. He added the official statement of the party will be out soon. NCP spokesperson Mahesh Tapase tweeted, "@NCPspeaks feels that the new Parliament building should be inaugurated by the President of India. This is also the view of the entire opposition. NCP MPs will abstain from the inauguration function." Sources said Opposition parties may issue a joint statement announcing their decision to boycott the inauguration ceremony. Meanwhile, the Congress is yet to announce its decision officially, however, sources in the party said it may stay away from the ceremony as well.
