Nana Patole: Special session of Parliament a ploy to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra
Patole's remark comes in the background of similar claims made by Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray after the presentation by Niti Aayog in front of the state government, where it was announced that the Centre will be chalking out the development plan for the city.

President of Maharashtra Congress Nana Patole on Monday alleged that the special session of the Parliament has been called with an agenda to divide the country, which includes the plan to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra and make it a Union Territory.
“The special session was not called during Covid crisis, not after demonetisation, nor was it called to address the Manipur issue. But a special session has now been called by the arrogant and arbitrary BJP government with a specific intent,” said Patole.
“Mumbai is a city of international stature, the financial capital of the country, the pride of both Maharashtra and the country. But this is what the BJP cannot see and the Modi government’s plan is to take all the power centres from Mumbai to Gujarat,” said the state Congress chief. ‘
Stating that several steps have been taken to undermine Mumbai’s importance in the last nine years, Patole said, “The International Financial Centre was moved to Gujarat, the large-scale diamond trade in Mumbai was moved to Gujarat. Even the headquarters of Air India has been moved out of Mumbai. Now, there is a plan to shift the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) to Gujarat.”
Patole’s remark comes in the background of similar claims made by Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray after the presentation by Niti Aayog in front of the state government, where it was announced that the Centre will be chalking out the development plan for the city.
“The MVA government was an obstacle in the BJP’s plan to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra. Therefore, the MVA government was dislodged with the help of the Centre and the Governor. Ever since the Shinde-led government came to power, all big projects from Mumbai and Maharashtra have been shifted to Gujarat,” claimed the Congress leader.
He added PM Narendra Modi-led BJP government has taken the decision to call a special session of Parliament from September 18 to 22, without disclosing the agenda or consulting anyone, including the Opposition or even the Parliamentary business advisory committee.
Patole said neither Chief Minister Eknath Shinde nor Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis dared to oppose this and that they should question PM Modi for taking important offices and projects out of Mumbai.
