Bombay City Civil and Sessions Court, Greater Mumbai.
A murder accused flung his slippers at a judge at the city civil and sessions court Tuesday afternoon.
The police said the man attempted to assault the judge as he was angry because the trial in his case was yet to begin and his bail plea was deferred. Mubarak Moin Khan allegedly threw both his slippers at Judge D G Murumkar after being told that his bail plea had been deferred. The incident took place at 12.15 pm inside courtroom 29. The policemen overpowered him and escorted him out. The Colaba police have booked him for assaulting, endangering life of and insulting a public servant.
According to the police, Khan was seated on a bench inside the courtroom along with other accused in the case when he attempted to attack the judge.
“The first slipper would have hit the judge on the face had he not moved aside quickly. Khan then threw the second slipper but the judge avoided that one too,” said an officer from the court.
Khan and the others were arrested by the Powai police in December 2014 after they attacked Sagar Kamble, Nilesh More, Pawan Yadav and Dinesh Thorat, all from Jogeshwari, near IES School in Jogeshwari. They also abducted Kamble who was found dead a day later, said the police.
Tuesday’s incident comes two weeks after another undertrial hurled a shoe at sessions judge Sanjay Patil, enraged that his trial had been adjourned. Accused, Madan Chavan, arrested by the RCF for robbery in 2012, had hurled a shoe at the judge, which hit the dais. He was quickly overpowered.
