City's first metro called 'Mumbai Metro One' that runs between Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar completes nine years' of operation on June 8. The 11.40 km long service that was thrown open to public in 2014 ferries over 4 lakh passengers every day. It is Mumbai’s first public transport system that provided the comfort of air conditioned travel to Mumbaikar”s who were used to travel in jam packed suburban trains. With a slewof Metro lines ow being planned across the city, regulat commuters using the cities first metro line Are now demanding increased coaches in the Metro rakes. "The Mumbai's AC local trains every other day reports issue in its cooling system and the reason been told that the the coaches see more number of passengers then its carrying capacity. In Metro's the same situation may occur as already in peak hours the coaches are over crowded therefore with additional coaches the issue of cooling can also be handled well ensuring proper ventilation," Dhaval Shah director of Lokhandwala Oshiwara citizen’s association said. Another commuter named Karan Jotwani who travel via Metro from DN Nagar to Marol daily for his office said, "Metro has really saved my travel time. However, during peak time the rush is huge. It is time to have more coaches so the carrying capacity of trains can be augmented." The Mumbai Metro One is having 16 trains and during peak hours (8:30 am to 10:30 am) and (6pm to 9pm) services are operational at a time gap of three and half minutes. Around 400 trips are made through out the day added the official carrying 4 lakh passengers on weekdays and on weekend the ridership is lesser.
