Maharashtra Mumbai Rains Today, IMD Weather Forecast Live Updates: Mumbai has been witnessing heavy rainfall since last with, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a nowcast warning saying that a moderate to intense spell of rainfall will lash Mumbai in the next 4 hours.

Record rainfall recorded: The island city has recorded 86 mm of rainfall till 8 am on Thursday, followed by 65 mm in eastern suburbs and 53 mm at western suburbs, according to the BMC’s Automatic Weather Station (AWS) system.

IMD forecast: According to IMD forecast, heavy rainfall is expected in Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan on Thursday (June 19). “Isolated heavy rainfall also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during 19th, 22nd and 23rd, Gangetic West Bengal during 23rd-25th, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha during 19th-22nd, Madhya Pradesh during 19th-23rd June with very heavy rainfall over Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha on 19th, Jharkhand on 20th, East Madhya Pradesh during 20th-23rd, West Madhya Pradesh on 22nd & 23rd and over Chhattisgarh on 19th & 20th June,” IMD said in its statement.

Mumbai Rains Today LIVE Updates: Orange alert issued for the Raigad and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra

An orange alert has been issued for the Raigad and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra for the next 24 hours, while a yellow alert has been issued for the Palghar and Thane districts.

The weather bureau had issued a yellow alert for Mumbai till 8.30 am on June 19 and was later upgraded to an orange alert.

Mumbai Rains Today LIVE Updates: Mumbai's Powai Lake overflows as incessant rain creates havoc

Mumbai's Powai Lake, on Wednesday (June 18), began to overflow as incessant rain created havoc in the island city.

The lake, which has the storage capacity of 545 crore litres (5.45 billion litres), started overflowing at 6 am, with its water level at 195.10 feet.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in a post on X said, "Powai Lake, one of the main artificial lakes under the jurisdiction of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), began overflowing around 6 am today. With a storage capacity of 545 crore litres (5.45 billion litres), the lake’s water is non-potable and is primarily used for industrial purposes and non-potable uses in the Aarey Milk Colony. The lake has reached its capacity and started overflowing due to heavy rainfall in its catchment area over the past two days. As of now, the water level stands at 195.10 feet."

Mumbai Rains Today LIVE Updates: Heavy rainfall expected in Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that heavy rainfall is expected in Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan on Thursday (June 19).

"Isolated heavy rainfall also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during 19th, 22nd and 23rd, Gangetic West Bengal during 23rd-25th, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha during 19th-22nd, Madhya Pradesh during 19th-23rd June with very heavy rainfall over Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha on 19th, Jharkhand on 20th, East Madhya Pradesh during 20th-23rd, West Madhya Pradesh on 22nd & 23rd and over Chhattisgarh on 19th & 20th June," IMD said in its statement.

Mumbai Rains Today LIVE Updates: Coastal observatory at Colaba records highest single-day rainfall

According to the details shared by IMD, the coastal observatory at Colaba has recorded 142.6 mm of rainfall, which is the highest single-day rainfall recorded during the month of June in the last two years. Prior to this, in 2023, Colaba recorded 148 mm of rainfall within a span of 24 hours on June 20, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Santacruz observatory recorded 60.5 mm of rainfall in the in the last 24 hours.
