Mahayuti Portfolio Announcement Highlights: Eknath Shinde bags heavyweight depts, retains most Cabinet portfolios from earlier govt

While the Home Ministry was retained by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has been given the portfolio of Finance and Planning along with State Excise.

Mahayuti Portfolio Announcement Live Updates: Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde’s party bagged heavyweight and key portfolios in the much-awaited portfolio distribution among the ruling Mahayuti alliance. While the Home Ministry was retained by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shinde was allocated Ministry of Urban Development, Housing and Public Works. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has been given the portfolio of Finance and Planning along with State Excise. Sources in the Sena said in place of Home, Shinde managed to get other important portfolios like Housing and Urban Development, among others.

Apart from Shinde, 11 other Sena MLAs had taken oath as ministers last week in Nagpur, a day before the winter session began. While Uday Samant has been given Industries and Marathi language ministries, other important portfolios like Public Health & Family Welfare and School Education have been assigned to Sena ministers Prakash Abitkar and Dada Bhuse, respectively.

Maharashtra Budget: The budget session of the Maharashtra legislature will commence in Mumbai on March 3. The prorogation order issued by Maharashtra governor C P Radhakrishnan was read out by Speaker Rahul Narwekar. The six-day winter session between December 16 and 21 witnessed uproar over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on B R Ambedkar, violence in Parbhani city in central Maharashtra over the desecration of a replica of the Constitution, and the murder of a sarpanch in Beed. This session saw six sittings passed 13 out of 15 reintroduced bills, one was sent to the joint committee and another is pending.
