The Virar police arrested a man last week for allegedly raping a 37-year-old woman several times. According to the police, the woman, a homemaker, and her husband, who works at a company which manufactures notebooks, do not have any children. In the past, she had multiple miscarriages and also delivered a stillborn baby. Advice and treatment from gynecologists and fertility experts didn’t help.

According to the police, in 2011, the woman’s husband came to know of the accused, who claimed to solve people’s problems through rituals. The couple then met the accused, who assured to find a solution. “In the beginning, he would conduct rituals in the presence of the couple,” a police officer said.

When the woman did not conceive, the couple stopped visiting the accused. However, in 2017, the woman again approached the accused, the police said.

“This time, the accused allegedly persuaded the woman’s husband to send her to his flat alone,” the officer said.
