Mumbai: Man gets death for minor’s rape-murder

The Thane sessions court convicted Arun Lote on charges of murder, rape and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

A 30-year-old man was sentenced to death for the rape and murder of a minor girl in Thane district. The Thane sessions court on Wednesday convicted Arun Lote on charges of murder, rape and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

In September 2014, according to the prosecution, Lote had taken the six-year-old victim to an isolated spot on the pretext of getting her some eatables. He raped her there and strangled her to death. The prosecution presented 16 witnesses, including three who had seen the girl with the accused.
