Meanwhile, the Central railway issued an advisory for special suburban trains which will be running from CSMT to Kalyan/Thaneand back in connection with Ganpati celebrations from September 15 to 18 on Main Line between CSMT-KYN section. On Harbour Line special suburban trains will be running from CSMT to PNVL and back only on September 17 and 18. The special trains will run stopping at all stations between CSMT and Kalyan/Thane/Panvel.

A woman from Ulhasnagar in Thane district was duped of Rs 39.49 lakh allegedly by a man who befriended her on a social media platform and proposed marriage, a police official said on Sunday.
"He got her to transfer Rs 39.49 lakh through multiple online transactions.
A case was registered under Information Technology Act provisions and efforts are on to nab the accused, he added.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday said the state assembly polls are expected to be held in the second week of November and seat-sharing among the ruling allies would be finalised in the next 8 to 10 days.
A two-phase poll would be preferable for the 288-member state assembly, Shinde said in an informal chat with mediapersons at his official residence 'Varsha' in Mumbai.

A 33-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking a woman pedestrian with his helmet in a road rage incident in south Mumbai, police said Monday.
The accused, Shahen Alam Sheikh, was later released on bail.
According to police, he verbally abused her, pushed her, and struck her on the head with his helmet.
A mob gathered and started assaulting Sheikh, who claimed to be a police officer in an attempt to escape.
Passengers of an IndiGo flight from the city to Doha waited inside the aircraft for more than four hours as the flight was delayed due to a technical issue on Sunday.
Some passengers took to social media to complain about the long flight delay and that they had to wait for long. The flight was to take off on Sunday early morning.
Passengers were inside the aircraft for more than four hours before they deplaned.
The flight is now expected to take off later in the day from the Mumbai airport, sources in the know said.
IndiGo said its flight 6E 1303, operating from Mumbai to Doha, was delayed due to a technical reason.
"The aircraft tried to depart for its destination a couple of times but had to finally be called off due to the extended time lag on account of various procedural delays," the airline said in a statement.
While apologising for the inconvenience, IndiGo said its airport team immediately provided assistance to the affected customers and provided refreshments and necessary arrangements.
On Sunday morning, a passenger on X said the flight was stuck for four hours due to a technical problem and that the immigration authority was not giving permission to offload the passengers.
The airline also said passengers are being provided hotels and are being rebooked as per their final destination, it added.

Thane, Sep 15 (PTI) Three Nigerian nationals have been arrested for alleged possession of mephedrone and cocaine worth Rs 75.4 lakh in Navi Mumbai, police said on Sunday.
The accused were nabbed near a temple in Kopar Khairane on Saturday night, senior inspector Sandeep Nigade of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) said.
The accused, Silvasa Nnachor (42), Ejike Donatus Ogugua (40), and Sunday Ezeobi (42), were residents of Kopar Khairane, he said.
The ANC team seized 101.52 gm of mephedrone and 201.2 gm of cocaine worth Rs 75.4 lakh from the trio, the official said, adding that a probe is on to find out where the drugs were sourced from and the intended customers.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said.

Congress Legislature Party leader in Maharashtra Balasaheb Thorat on Sunday accused Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis of creating religious discord by spreading "fake news".
Thorat's comments came a day after CM Shinde said the Congress government in Karnataka was trying to shut down Ganesh festival celebrations.
Shinde on Saturday also said the opposition targeted his government over the collapse of a statue of Shivaji Maharaj (in Sindhudurg), but remains silent about police in Congress-ruled Karnataka putting a Ganesh idol in a police van.
Videos purportedly showing Karnataka police taking away a Ganesh idol from protestors and putting it in a police van have gone viral on social media.
"The only thing that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister are doing full time is creating a fake narrative by constantly spreading fake news," Thorat claimed in a post on X and asked whether they were running "fake news factories".
Earlier, they protested against a statement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding reservation, which he did not make, Thorat said.
"And now an attempt is being made to create religious discord in the state by spreading fake news about what did not happen in Karnataka," he claimed.
"The people of the state are wise and along with your fake narrative, your government will also be uprooted," Thorat said.

Five persons were killed and four others injured after a pick-up van collided with a car in Maharashtra's Dhule district on Sunday, police said.
The accident occurred at Dasvel Fata in Shindkheda taluka in the morning, an official said.
A pick-up van collided with a car, killing five persons, including three women, he said.
Four persons also sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital, the official said.
As per preliminary information, the driver of the pick-up van was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, and he received minor injuries, he said.
The Nardana police are probing into the incident, he said.

Union Minister for Transport and National Highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said a senior opposition leader offered him the prime minister’s post before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. However, he turned down the offer as it was against his conviction.
The Union minister was addressing a journalism award event in Nagpur. “One senior leader from opposition party approached me with the offer of prime ministership. I was told if I gave the nod they would work towards my prime ministership,” Gadkari said.
“I immediately rejected the offer. I categorically told that leader, I am a person who believes in ideology and conviction. I have always lived and worked on principles,” he added. “I made it clear that I never harbored the ambition of becoming the PM of the country. Therefore, there was no question of taking any offer. My upbringing is such that I have lived on certain principles and conviction, which are non-negotiable and cannot be compromised.”

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday inaugurated 'Constitution Temples' at the vocational training centres in 434 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Maharashtra.
He presided over the programme in Mumbai, organised by the Maharashtra Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Department headed by minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha.
ITIs are post-secondary schools set up to provide training in various trades.
Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan and Union Minister of State for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale attended the event.
Dhankhar is on a two-day visit to Maharashtra.
He visited the famous Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh pandal in Mumbai on Saturday, amid the ongoing 10-day Ganpati festival.
The vice president also visited the official residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday evening and offered prayers at the idol of Lord Ganesh installed there.

Interviews for the job of construction worker in Israel will be conducted at Aundh Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Pune from September 17, Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Saturday.
Nearly 10,000 construction workers are going to be recruited from India as per a memorandum of understanding signed with Israel, he said in a post on X.
"The interviews of some 9,000 candidates are scheduled to start at Aundh based ITI.....The interviews will start from September 17 and go on till 25," he added.

Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar on Saturday urged people to approach police if they received any fake "arrest notice" through email, phone call or messaging apps.
"Received an arrest notice from the Commissioner of Mumbai Police? Bring it to our notice. Don't believe or respond to any fake arrest notice on mail, WhatsApp, SMS or phone call received on behalf of the Commissioner, Mumbai Police," he said in a post on X.
Of late, numerous cases of online cheating where fraudsters pose as police or other law enforcement/government agency and extort money have come to light.

Cyber fraudsters posing as officials of Mumbai police and CBI duped a 61-year-old woman here of Rs 3.04 crore, police said on Saturday.
Over the last two months, the woman, a Thane resident, was contacted by individuals who identified themselves as officials of a courier firm, the cyber crime cell of Mumbai police and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
She was told that her bank accounts required inspection for `suspicious activity', and forced to transfer Rs 3.04 crore through five online transactions, said a police official.
After realising that she had been cheated, she approached Thane Nagar police station on Friday and a case was registered, he said.
Probe was underway, the official added.

The Mumbai police arrested five people for impersonating cops and robbing a man of Rs 5 lakhs cash, said police.
According to police, the incident took place when the victim went to deposit money at an ATM of Canara Bank in Khar around 7am on September 8.

Thirteen people, including two minors, suffered from suffocation after a fire broke out in a ground-plus-seven-storey residential building in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar early on Saturday.
No casualties have been reported in the blaze reported at 1.35 am inside the Shanti Sagar Building at Ghatkopar area, said fire officials.
Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) personnel rescued all the 90 people who were trapped on the various floors of the building located at Ramabai Colony.
More than 23,000 idols of Lord Ganesh and goddess Gauri were immersed in Mumbai on the seventh day of the festival dedicated to the elephant-headed deity, civic officials said on Saturday.

The inability to sell a stolen diamond in Nepal landed two people in the police net for the murder of a petrol pump owner in Maharashtra.
Based on a tip-off, the police on Wednesday arrested the accused, Mukesh Khubchandani and Anil Rajkumar, from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, where they had come to sell the valuables they had allegedly stolen from the murder victim R G Kakrani.
Renowned journalist Vijay Vaidya, whose career spanned over 60 years, passed away on Saturday morning in Mumbai.
He was 82. Vaidya's contributions to Marathi journalism were significant, with his work spanning across newspapers like 'Sakal' and 'Navakal.' Beyond his journalistic endeavors, Vaidya also authored books, served as a columnist, and engaged in social causes such as helping missing children and supporting divorcees.
At a time when Mumbai is witnessing adverse weather conditions, the India Meteorology Department (IMD) is set to inaugurate four new Doppler radars for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Doppler radars are weather detection systems that help the IMD in tracking weather conditions in 2-3 hours advance, following which nowcast warnings are issued.

Of the 13 injured, eight have been discharged while five are still admitted at Ghatkopar’s Ramabai hospital. Medical officials maintained that the condition of all victims is stable.
A 33-year-old man in Mumbai attacked his friend with a knife after she stopped talking to him. Both were hospitalized,with the accused in critical condition. The police have registered a case against the man.
According to the Bhandup police, the alleged attempt to murder took place on Wednesday afternoon at Bhandup, an eastern suburb. Both the accused and the woman have been hospitalised.
"In anger the accused attacked her with a knife and afterwards tried to commit suicide. Both were rushed to the hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The woman has been admitted to a hospital in Mulund, where she is undergoing treatment, while the accused has been admitted to Sion Hospital, where his condition remains critical," the Bhandup police said. Thirteen people suffered from smoke suffocation after a fire broke out in the electric meter room of Shanti Sagar Building in Mumbai's Ghatkopar early Saturday. The blaze, which started around 1:35 am, was confined to wiring but caused significant smoke, leading to the rescue of 80 to 90 residents. Twelve of the injured were hospitalized, and one was treated and discharged. The fire was extinguished by 2:05 am, and the cause is under investigation. (Inputs by PTI)
