Mumbai: Husband ‘attacks’ wife upset over his drinking habit with knife, held

According to the police complaint, Hetal’s husband Sathalia was addicted to alcohol and was also under debts due to his drinking habit.

A 29-year-old man was arrested for attempt to murder in Kandivali Wednesday after he allegedly attacked his wife with a knife when she did not allow him to stay at her place owing to his drinking habit and debts.

The injured woman has been identified as Hetal Sathalia (26) and is undergoing treatment at Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali.

According to the police complaint, Hetal’s husband Sathalia was addicted to alcohol and was also under debts due to his drinking habit. Hetal was against Ravi’s drinking habit and she had left his home and returned to her mother’s place Ramnagar in Kandivali (East).

On Tuesday night, Ravi arrived at Hetal’s mother’s place and insisted on allowing her to stay there. She was alone at the house that time, police said.

Hetal told Ravi that she cannot allow him to stay there and asked him to leave. This angered Ravi, who, using a knife, slit Hetal’s right wrist in order to kill her, police said. Later Hetal’s relatives and neighbours immediately admitted her to Shatabdi Hospital.

On Hetal’s mother’s Viju Ugreja’s complaint, the Samata Nagar police registered a case of attempted murder against Ravi. He was placed under arrest as he himself reached the police station on Wednesday morning.

The knife used by the accused in the attack has been seized by the police, said an officer.
