Mumbai: Four injured in Byculla bakery fire

Four persons were injured in a fire incident that was reported in a bakery south Mumbai’s Byculla. The injured have been identified as Jayesh Parekh (45), Javed Siddique (25), Jabril Ahmed (23), and Shahriar Raisi (36).

The incident was reported around 5.45 pm, following which the blaze was extinguished around 6.55 pm.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Ravindra Ambulgekar – chief fire officer (CFO) said that the fire broke out following an LPG cylinder leak.

“The incident was reported from the bakery. An LPG cylinder that was kept inside the bakery leaked, after which a fire broke out as the oven was already burning,” Ambulgekar said.

“The blaze remained confined within the bakery only and the adjoining premises were evacuated as a precautionary measure,” he added.

Out of the four injured, Raisi suffered 40% burn injuries, followed by Parekh who suffered 30% burn injuries, Ahmed suffered 20% burn injuries, while Siddiqui suffered 15% burn injuries.

Civic officials maintained that the four injured were employees working at the bakery.

“The employees were heating the bread loafs and were close to the oven. As a result of which they suffered burn injuries. The injured were immediately rescued and transported to the local Masina hospital for further treatment,” said the official.

Civic sources said that the injured are currently under observation and are in a stable condition.
