Diva station to get 2 extra lines on Central Railway

The station, which is presently equipped with two platforms and four lines, will get two extra lines making it six lines in total.

Diva station will soon be included as one of the halts for fast-track trains on the Central Railway. Coming as a relief for at least three lakh commuters, the station will also get two additional platforms which will enable an extra halt for fast train services, Central Railway authorities said in a press conference on Wednesday.

The station, which is presently equipped with two platforms and four lines, will get two extra lines making it six lines in total. “The station is witness to a growing commuter rush every day. Due to the additional lines created, mail trains would be run on those two lines which were initially run here. Also, the remaining four lines would become dedicated services for running suburban lines. We are aiming to finish the construction of platforms by October,” said A K Srivastava, Additional General Manager, Central Railway.

The project is a component of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (Phase II) of making fifth and sixth lines between Thane-Diva. The entire project is being facilitated by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation and is expected to be completed by December 2017. The position of station building on one of the platforms will also be shifted to accommodate more commuter rush.

Subhash Gupta, Chairperson Railway Yatri Parishad, said, “This move by the Central Railway is much appreciated. Getting a fast track service on Diva has remained one of the biggest demands of commuters for many years. Due to the quick industrial and residential growth around Diva, commuters will benefit immensely due to this addition.”

Diva station was a witness to one of the major riots on the Central line last year due to disruption of train services.

The introduction of platforms and halt of fast trains is expected to bring a relief to Diva railway commuters who will not have to move to Dombivli or Thane stations to board a fast train to CST.

Meanwhile, Harbour line will witness the conversion of all 36 rakes into 12 coaches by the end of June.
