The Mumbai police have booked a Bihar-based 22-year-old modelling agency owner for allegedly spiking an aspiring model’s drink on the occasion of Holi in 2021, taking her nudes, blackmailing her, and raping and assaulting her several times between January 2021 and May 2023.

The complainant, currently residing in a Mumbai neighbourhood, saw the modelling agency’s advertisement online and joined its training course in Ranchi in December 2020.

As per the woman’s allegations, the accused, during the complainant’s training, sexually harassed her by blackmailing her with her nudes and allegedly raped her at his office, her hostel room and a hotel in Bangkok during a shooting assignment. She also alleged that the accused forced her to marry him, accept Islam and change her name.

In a video statement, the accused refuted the allegations and claimed that the model, along with her boyfriend and friends, was blackmailing him by sending his nudes to his family members, friends and relatives to defame him. He also alleged that the model and his boyfriend wanted to usurp his modelling agency’s data having details of over 200 models.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9) Krishnakant Upadhyay said they registered a case under sections 376(2)(n) (repeated rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison,), 504 (insulting someone intentionally to provoke them), 506 (death threat) of the Indian Penal Code and 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of Information Technology Act against the accused.

“Since the alleged incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Ranchi police, we have transferred the case to them for further investigation. Mumbai police are not investigating the case,” he said.
