Mumbai: 9 held for supplying drugs to peddlers; MD, charas among drugs seized

THE MUMBAI crime branch on Wednesday arrested nine persons for allegedly supplying narcotics to peddlers in the city. An officer said that a total of 13 offences have been registered against the arrested accused in the past.

The accused were produced before the court on Thursday and remanded to police custody.

On checking the two vehicles, the police found narcotics. Following this, eight persons including a woman who was present in one of the two four-wheelers were detained by the police.

An officer said that based on the information given by the accused, the cash obtained by selling narcotics was recovered from their residence in Chembur. Also, another accomplice of the accused, Raees Qureshi, was detained from his residence in Kurla along with narcotics and a two-wheeler.

The crime branch said that in the operation, Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 70 lakh and 45 grams of Charas worth Rs 1.35 lakh were seized.

In addition, a total of three cars worth Rs 26.6 lakh, cash of Rs 17.89 lakh and a total of 10 mobile phones worth approximately Rs 3.4 lakhs were seized from the accused. An officer said that prima facie it appears that the accused procured the narcotics from outside the state.
