Mumbai: 2 killed after man rams SUV into taxi on Elphinstone bridge
The accused youth was overspeeding and lost control over his vehicle

A 21-year-old engineering student was booked after he dashed his SUV into a taxi, killing two people on the spot, on Elphinstone bridge in Dadar West on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Rekha Parmar (55), a flower seller from Chinchpokli area, and taxi driver Shankar.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone-5) Ganesh Gawade said the incident took place around 1.35pm opposite One International on Elphinstone bridge (Senapati Bapat Marg). After selling flowers in the morning in Dadar area, Parmar was heading back home when the accident took place.
According to police, the accused, Priyanshu Amar Vandre, was going in his SUV towards Bandra. Parmar and Shankar were in the taxi, which was moving towards south Mumbai.
The accused youth was over speeding and lost control over his vehicle. He dashed his SUV into the taxi that was coming from the opposite direction. Since the SUV was at a high speed, the impact of the head-on collision with the taxi was such that the front portion of both the vehicles were badly damaged, said police adding that Parmar and Shankar died on the spot.
The flyover on which the accident took place has no divider, said police.
“Since Amar was wearing a seatbelt, he did not sustain major injuries. A case has been registered against him at Dadar police station for overspeeding and causing death by negligence. We are checking if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident,” said the DCP.
