Two civic engineers who were allegedly slapped and scolded by Bhartiya Janata Party MLA Geeta Jain in public recently have withdrawn their police complaint against the politician. The engineers have submitted a letter to the Kashimira police withdrawing the charges. In their June 26 letter to the senior inspector of Kashimira police station, junior engineers Shubham Patil and Sanjay Soni from Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, said that they have given the complaint in a huff, but later on decided to withdraw the same. “We are not taking back our complaint in any kind of political pressure so requesting you to cancel our complaint,” states the letter signed by Patil and Soni. On June 20, Jain allegedly slapped an engineer and shouted at others over razing an illegal structure in Penkarpada area of Kashimira, where the corporation’s anti-encroachment squad was carrying out a demolition drive ahead of monsoon. In the one-minute video that was widely shared on social media, Jain is seen scolding two engineers and catching hold of one of them by his shirt collar, before slapping him for razing some structures that caused the occupants, including children, to stay on the roads. Next day, police received an application from the engineer to register an FIR against Jain but it was not registered. Now the engineers have withdrawn their complaint, police said.
