MSRTC to run 5,000 buses for Pandharpur pilgrims from Mumbai, Pune, Nashik

These 5,000 bus services will be available from June 29 to July 5.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is set to run 5,000 buses from Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Ahmednagar and other places for the annual Pandharpur Yatra which will be commemorated on June 29 – Ashadi Ekadashi. These 5,000 bus services will be available till July 5.

During the Covid-19 outbreak, the annual Pandharpur Yatra was restricted. The pilgrimage restarted last year. Considering the demand from devotees, the MSRTC decided to run special bus services this year. As per an MSRTC official, 500 buses will run from Mumbai, 1,000 buses from Nashik, 1,200 from Pune and Aurangabad each, and 700 from Amravati, among others.

For the Pandharpur Ringan festival on June 27, an additional 200 buses will convey. People attend this festival in large numbers each year, which sees devotees forming circles and singing devotional songs for Lord Pandharpur.

Meanwhile, to prevent rush at existing bus stations, the MSRTC has decided to come up with four temporary bus stations to manage the crowd. These temporary bus stops will be made at Chandrabhaga, Bhima, Pandurang (IIT College), and Vithal Kharkhana in Pandharpur.

The MSRTC sees a ridership of 53 lakh daily, and it is expected to increase further during the Pandharpur Yatra, say officials.
